There are some bone-chilling facts that baby boomers need to hear, learn more about and plan for. Here are just a few of them:
1) There will soon be 77 million people over the age of 50 and only 44 million in the generation that follows. The current social security system is not set up to handle this change and will demand drastic changes in order to continue.
2) While organizations increase their efforts to compete globally they will do whatever it takes to remain profitable. Employees have been identified as the single largest variable cost employers have control over. Older workers seem to be the greatest recipient of this emerging trend of lay-offs and unplanned retirement. A family can no longer count on "the company" to take care of them just because of dedication, loyalty, and hard work.
3) In a joint study done by the Society for Human Resource Management and AARP it was discovered that 65% of current employers do not actively recruit older workers.

One of my favorite lines from the movie
Jerry Maguire is "Help Me, Help You".
I have one of those Type A, high-energy types of personalities. It has always made me feel so
good to accomplish something and to help others. I am a doer. I think that is one of the reasons I have been successful in business; I always want to be able to contribute to the bottom line.
I chose this subject matter "Positioning Yourself for Succe$$", because I know so many people working for a variety of large organizations (and some small ones) that simply feel stuck. They are staying in their jobs mostly for security reasons and would really like to move on "if only…"
